History doesn’t always live inside a museum. Lewis County is filled with historic places, trails and landscapes where visitors can explore the region’s past firsthand.
Jackson House State Park Heritage Site — Jackson Prairie
Visit the site of one of Washington’s earliest Euro-American homesteads. The reconstructed Jackson House interprets territorial-era history while the site itself has a much longer Indigenous history connected to the prairie landscape and Coast Salish peoples.
Claquato Church & Historic Claquato Cemetery — Chehalis area
Explore one of Lewis County’s most important early settlement sites. Historic Claquato once served as the county seat, and its landmark church and cemetery preserve the story of a community that predates modern Chehalis.
Fort Borst Park — Centralia
